Liver
Enzyme Fluctuation during Allergy Season
The spring season is full of life and colors as many kinds of flowers are
blooming. However, in suburban areas, this unfortunately means that the
air is also full of pollen. (Check the surface of your car in the morning
and you will notice a layer of yellowish material) Besides pollen, there
is also an abundant amount of mole spores in the air. These are the most
common allergens during the spring season and even mild reactions without
clinical allergic symptoms can disrupt your immune reactions.
Disturbances
in immune activities can exacerbate immune-related chronic disease such as
autoimmune disorders. The main pathogenesis in chronic hepatitis C is
inadequate immune reactions and is the main cause of persisting liver
inflammation. Thus, any factor that stirs up immune responses is likely to
worsen chronic hepatitis C symptoms. From my years of treatment and
observation, I have noticed that previously steady records of ALT and AST
in many patients had a tendency to fluctuate without obvious causes during
the spring. The same phenomenon also happens during the early stages of
the fall season. (Hay Fever season)
In
order to avoid the fluctuation caused by allergic reactions, I suggest
using an air filter/purifier in the office and home, which will help to
reduce the concentration of these allergens. If the allergic reactions are
strong and the symptoms are quite severe(runny nose, sneezing, itching,
rashes) then an anti-allergic herbal remedy should be used temporarily.
