Treatments
for NASH
As with any protocol, the
key to proper treatment is tackling the underlying cause. The most
important goal is treating the underlying disorders, such as diabetes,
obesity, and high-blood lipids. At the same time, related symptoms and
physical abnormalities should also be treated. Since MCM is a
constitutional medicine, it has developed many types of therapies to
support the liver’s repair process.
- Dietary
control. Controlling one’s weight by regulating fat intake and
overall nutrition is very important. Limiting daily calories and
avoiding foods high in saturated fat.
- Taking
an anti-oxidant and multiple vitamins supplement.
- Anti-hyperlipidemia
treatments: Many western anti-hyperlipidemia drugs are hard on the
liver, so using alternative Chinese herbal remedies can be suitable
for NASH. By maintaining a healthy diet, the blood lipid level can be
reduced along with fat deposits in the liver. MCM uses the Chinese
herbs.

Facilitating bile secretion can help eliminate bile acid, which is
a way the liver secretes fat. Herbs that help
increase bile secretion aid the liver in eliminating fat deposits.

Anti-fibrosis
treatments
- Controlling
liver inflammation by using supportive herbs. Herbal remedies that can
facilitate the healing process are: (active ingredients schisandrin B and C),
(active ingredient, silymarin). These compounds can help heal
liver inflammation and increase the liver’s ability to metabolize
fat and reduce its accumulation.
Prognosis
of NASH
The
good news is that most patients are able to reverse their fatty liver
condition once they reduce their weight through treatment and diet
control. I have treated many patients using a comprehensive approach (life
style change, diet control, exercise, and herbal treatment), and the
majority of them have been able to improve their condition
symptomatically, bio-chemically and histologically.
